Steve and I have a new favorite restaurant called BiBimBab. In case you're ever north of Detroit and want a spectacular dining experience at an authentic Korean restaurant, the address is 43155 Main St/Novi, MI 48375-1777. Call (248) 348-6800.
Here you see Steve practicing with his special chopsticks, modified by the wait staff for uncoordinated Occidentals with a chunk of folded paper secured at the vertex with a rubberband.
Here I am serving myself some of the potato noodle appetizer with my unaltered chopsticks, thank you very much. Look at that color! Yum!
Our salad came next, followed by freshly washed leaves of romaine lettuce and special sauce. The lettuce leaves are to wrap the food that will be cooked on the gas grill imbedded in the middle of our table, sort of like a leafy egg roll that you make yourself.
Next to arrive were the little dishes, small portions of condiments and side dishes to compliment our main dish. They included fresh broccoli in a peanut sauce, kimchee (pickled or fermented cabbage that can be very spicy), bean sprouts, little cubes of some kind of radish in a milder spicy sauce, and an incongruous scoop of mayonnaise based potato salad.
Our main course was a seafood combination: shrimp, scallops, lobster tail, mussels, squid, and assorted vegetables.
Koji, our waiter, grilled everything for us and put up with all of our questions.
And it was DELICIOUS!
