An excellent way to keep your drivetrain clean includes cleaning your front chainrings, chain, rear cogs and rear derailleur pulleys. Use "Simple Green" cleaner which is biodegradable and available at most stores, and a Park tool cleaning brush. Just spray your drivetrain and brush off all the gunk. You can get it sparkly clean, and then rinse gently with a little water. Turn the bike upside down to do this and spin the pedals while using the brush and scrub all these areas. The brush also has a tool to clean between the cogs and remove debris. Then use a towel to dry everything and apply a little of your favorite chain lube. Remove excess lube by grabbing the chain with the towel and pedaling a few revolutions. |
